JFT-Basic Registration Guide by Country
Register for JFT-Basic through Prometric: supported countries, Prometric ID, passport rules, 2026 fees, booking windows and appointment changes.
JFT-Basic registration is handled through Prometric. Create a Prometric ID, enter identity information exactly from the passport MRZ or eligible Indonesian e-KTP, check your country's schedule, then reserve an available center and pay through the method shown locally.
For the December 2026-January 2027 window, Prometric lists 14 countries and opens reservations on 25 November 2026, with different local opening times for Myanmar and Nepal.
Key takeaways
- You need a Prometric ID before booking.
- The ID can generally be reused for Prometric exams.
- Passport MRZ data controls registration outside the Indonesia exception.
- Indonesia uses e-KTP for Indonesian nationals; non-Indonesians cannot test there under the current rule.
- Seats appear by center, date and time and can sell out.
- A schedule dot does not prove a seat is available.
- The current December-January window does not allow cancellation.
- Changes close three business days before the test, subject to seats.

- Indonesia.
- Mongolia.
- Myanmar.
- Nepal.

JFT-Basic is mainly for everyday Japanese needed by people preparing to live in Japan, particularly work-related routes. Read the JFT-Basic test guide, JFT-Basic passing scores, and JLPT vs JFT-Basic before registering.
December 2026-January 2027 booking window
The Prometric announcement dated 15 October states:
| Country group | Reservation opening |
|---|---|
| Countries other than Myanmar and Nepal | Around 10:00 a.m. Japan time, 25 November 2026 |
| Myanmar | Around 1:30 p.m. Myanmar time / 4:00 p.m. Japan time |
| Nepal | Around 12:45 p.m. Nepal time / 4:00 p.m. Japan time |
Reservations can open in stages by date, time and center. Heavy traffic can trigger a virtual waiting room. Prometric warns that waiting does not guarantee a seat and that candidates redirected to booking may be sent back to the queue after about 20 minutes if they do not finish.
Prepare the ID, password, center preferences and payment method before opening. Do not wait until the reservation release to correct a passport mismatch.
Create your Prometric ID
1. Open the correct exam page
Use the Prometric Specified Skilled Worker site and select JFT-Basic. Choose Create ID here from that exam route.
2. Read the precautions and consent terms
Confirm the rules before accepting. One Prometric ID can be used for many Prometric exams, so avoid duplicate accounts.
3. Register an active email
Prometric sends the ID to the registered email. If the email already has an ID, the system may send the existing ID rather than create another.
4. Set the password
Current instructions require 6-14 alphanumeric characters and distinguish uppercase from lowercase. Store it securely.
5. Select nationality and test country
This choice determines the identity path and available test environment.
6. Enter identity information
For countries other than the Indonesia exception, enter the passport MRZ exactly. The MRZ is the two-line machine-readable code at the bottom of the passport identity page.
Indonesian nationals testing in Indonesia enter e-KTP data. Prometric currently says non-Indonesian nationals cannot test in Indonesia.
7. Add contact details and verify
Enter phone and address using the permitted characters and length. Review every field. The Prometric ID then arrives by email.
Reserve the test step by step
- Check the exam period and country schedule.
- Sign in from the dedicated JFT-Basic page.
- Choose Scheduling Test.
- Review registered information and agreements.
- Select JFT-Basic and the intended language options.
- Enter any special information requested.
- Search by date and area.
- Select a center and available start time.
- Choose the country-specific payment method.
- Complete payment.
- Open the reserved-test list and save the Confirmation Letter.
Exam selection is consequential. Prometric warns that a mistaken subject or language cannot be changed or cancelled after reservation and the fee will not be refunded.
The Confirmation Letter contains the appointment details, required items and center map. Save it before the test date because display availability is time-limited.
Country fees and payment methods
Prometric maintains a live fee table. Current examples include:
| Country | JFT-Basic fee shown |
|---|---|
| Japan | JPY 10,000 |
| India | INR 3,540 gross, based on INR 3,000 net |
| Indonesia | IDR 550,000 |
Other listed countries have their own amounts. Open the country selector immediately before booking instead of using a converted value from an old article.
Payment methods can include credit card, local e-wallet, PayPay in supported contexts or a voucher. The reservation screen shows what is available for the selected country.
Voucher numbers expire. Confirm the test, country, price and expiry before buying from an authorized group. Do not send money to a person who cannot show the official voucher route.
Country planning notes
Japan
Japan uses a domestic center schedule. A marked date indicates planned delivery, not seat availability. Test-day identification can include passport plus residence card under the current notices for residents.
India
The live fee page currently shows INR 3,540 gross. Register passport details and check center availability after the booking window opens.
Indonesia
Indonesian nationals testing domestically use e-KTP registration. Non-Indonesian nationals are currently not eligible to test in Indonesia through this process.
Nepal and Myanmar
The December-January window opens at a different local time from the general group. Use the official local time in the announcement rather than converting from a social-media post.
Bangladesh, Cambodia, Mongolia, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Uzbekistan, Vietnam and Pakistan
These countries follow the general 25 November opening at around 10:00 a.m. Japan time for the announced window. Local payment, ID and center details still differ.
Change, cancel and seat rules
For the December 2026-January 2027 window:
- Scheduled appointments cannot be cancelled.
- Date, time or location can be changed until 23:59 Japan time three business days before the test.
- If the test falls on a weekend or Japanese public holiday, action may be required at least four business days before.
- A change is impossible when the desired seat is unavailable.
Log in and use Change from the reservation list. Do not assume a change is saved until the updated reservation appears and the Confirmation Letter is correct.
The current rules can differ from old windows. Read the announcement attached to your test period.
Identity document rules
Prometric emphasizes matching identity data. For JFT-Basic, the name, passport number or NIK and birth date must match the Prometric ID and test-day document.
Common rejection risks:
- Expired passport.
- Damaged or unreadable MRZ.
- Different Roman spelling.
- Wrong birth date.
- Testing in a country not allowed by the ID route.
- Bringing a copy instead of the required original.
Use the country-identification-document page for exact test-day requirements. In Japan, current notices may require passport plus residence card. Rules outside Japan differ.
Which level do you need?
Since August 2026, JFT-Basic assesses:
- A1 at 145-174.
- A2.1 at 175-199.
- A2.2 at 200-250.
A2.2 is the named level for Specified Skilled Worker (i), subject to field and immigration requirements. A1 and A2.1 have newer uses in Employment for Skill Development and language-school contexts.
Read specified skilled worker Japanese requirements, J.TEST vs JFT-Basic, and Japanese tests other than JLPT.
Candidates comparing score systems can also use the JPT Japanese test guide, JPT vs JLPT, and BJT business Japanese test guide. These tests are not substitutes unless the receiving rule accepts them.
